Cassie has a rather nasty cut on her paw that needed emergency surgery. She is comfortable and recovering well.

Cassie dog fall down. I'm grateful that we have doggie insurance!

So, Cass is on bed rest for the next 6 week or so :( I'm not sure who will go crazy first!

I completed a first aid course today. During my lunch break I was able to practice my first aid skills on a lady at the South City. Thus, making me very late back to the course - but the tutor loved it.

And I have my very own mini blow up Anne! She comes complete with a CPR video and other various first aid stuff.

I'm in New Plymouth for the day. The flight into New Plymouth was very exciting. Lots of turbulence!

Anyway, I am feeling pretty shattered - been up since 4.30am and lectured 3 sessions!

Is it bed time yet...

The Rules:
Each player lists 8 facts about themselves. The rules of the game should appear before the facts do. The player ends by tagging 8 people, which means listing their names and then going to their blogs to tell them that they’ve been tagged, then going back and commenting on their lists.

1. I've recently developed an obsession for Indian curry.

2. As a child I used to lie on my ear and listen to my heart beat. For many years I thought it was the foot steps of a monster coming to get me.

3. I love the smell of a coal fire.

4. I've decided that living in the country is not such a bad thing. I'd be able to have more dogs!

5. It annoys me when my sock slides down into my shoe or when the sleeves of my top ride up underneath my jacket.

6. I love the smell of spring and summer

7. I am currently employed in my ideal job but a permanent position would be great!

8. The Barnet park walkway is one of my  favorite places. It is close to the city yet secluded with that country feel.

I'm not going to bother tagging people - what a rebel!

Thank you to those who sent me kind txts and left messages on LJ :)

I'm really pleased with my fathers recovery. The doctors are very impressed with his progress. Apparently it is quite unusual for patients to be moving around after this type of operation. Well, us Turnock's are very determined and will not let anything get in our way. Take for instance my Grandfather. He had a serious stroke and was told he would never walk again. To our surprise he got out of his hospital bed and walked to the bathroom. Following that he managed to resit his drivers license and live a fairly good life. It is a pitty his only motive was alcohol.

Last night I caught Dad shoveling coal into the fire! He told me it was "okay" and that he is 'being a big baby". I worry he may split his wound. Perhaps I should invest in a set of hand cuffs to stop this stupidity.

My father, god bless him, survived his operation, which turned out to be a triple by pass. He had four aneurysms! A few more than we had expected.

He is recovering fairly well with minor complications. He managed to escape from the hospital yesterday afternoon and is not coping all that well with 'doing nothing'. In fact, today I caught him sweeping the floor! Then he wonders why he is crippled over in pain!

His scar is rather impressive - 45 rather large staples from his heart to his groin. He had some bleeding in the night which terrified him. He thought his time had come! After much panicking (from him and my mother) I managed to calm them down and sort it out.

So, it looks like I could be here for another week or so. We are expecting home help but have not heard anything yet. I'm not impressed - there is no way he could manage without me.

I miss you Hoochie!

So what has been happening in the world of lilenigma...

Our Wellington friends, Phil and Dayna, had a very tiny beautiful girl this week. Here are some photos of Baby Freya

Most of my friends are either pregnant or just about to have a baby. I guess this is another stage in life. We've been through all the 21st, engagements, weddings and now we're up to having babies.

We are just about to renew our mortgage. Having a baby feels even more out of reach. How do people manage to have children, have one parent at home and be able to pay a mortgage these days? Nine percent mortgage rates coupled with a 200K mortgage really put a damper on things.

Work has been silly with loads of marking and teaching. I'm looking forward to the term break. At least this will give me a break from teaching.

My father is unwell with stupidly high blood pressure and an aneurysm. His blood pressure needs to drop before he can have surgery. He says he is feeling okay but I still worry.

David's Gran died last week. It was expected but still a huge loss to the family. We had a small family funeral last Thursday to say our goodbyes. It was very casual - in fact completely different to what I am used too. Gran lived a full life until she became unwell in her late 80s. She would have been 94 this December.

Rest in Peace Nancy Vera Markham.

Wandered into town today to pick up regalia for tomorrow's graduation. The lady who served me said I looked far too young to be a staff member. How lovely.

There is one present under our Christmas tree. I hope Tess likes it :)

Off to get my hair trimmed and straightened for tomorrow. It almost reaches my waist now.

So much for working on my thesis today....

Woke this morning to rain and more rain! Walked 5.5km on the treadmill then juiced some carrots, apples and oranges. Mum made scones with raspberry jam and I completely ruined my workout by adding dollops of cream.

Decided to brave the rain and take Cass to the beach. She had a blast. Thank goodness for umbrellas although Cass was terrified and would not come near me for a short while.

So, I'm chilling out - feeling pretty good too. I'm going to smuggle the juicer home. My parents have not used it for ages and I think it is time for me to steal it.

Dad is feeling sorry for Cassie - she is inside in front of the fire (It was only a matter of time)

My doctor has recommended I stay away from work until Monday.

One good thing came out of my appointment. I have lost 8kg since Christmas. If I can do it anyone can!

Go me...

My first day is almost over. I have yet to work out how my phone message service works.

I've had too much hot chocolate! I am still feeling quite overwhelmed.

I'm going to shut up shop for the day and head off to the gym.

Glide time is quite nice. For now.

Feeling a lot better today. That could have something to do with having ten hours of sleep last night!

Marking is great but very time consuming. I'm trying to juggle my work, thesis, marking and lecturing all at once.

Hopefully this will pay off!

I'm thinking of joining the Recreation Centre at Canterbury. Has anyone used this facility before?
